Altitude: 490 m ASL (1,608 ft. ASL)

Muzquiz History


Back in 1674 a priest named Juan Larios founded the first mission of the east caller with the name of "Santa Rosa de Sant Maria".

In 1735 originally built because of the native Indian's savager, the royal prision "Santa María del Sacramento "was founded.

Establish as "Villa de Múzquiz", (1850) in memory of the acting president of Mexico and native of this area, General "Melchor Múzquiz", and in 1925 Múzquiz is risen to the category of "city" with its current name.

Múzquiz City today

With a prosperous population, bases its economy on mining (coal ore), livestock, and agriculture.
Its natural, historical, and cultural richness is notorious in places such as "La cascada" (the waterfall),"Las Grutas" (the caves), Campestre Park, its historic cuisine, like "machacado, dried beef and fine cuts of beef and northern style chorizo sausage", and its original arts and crafts.
